Photography Lighting Question?
My dad is a professional photographer/videographer. He just started doing passport photos. What kind of lights are best to use? Also, how do we position the lights so there will be no shadow? The people who are getting their photo take sit on a stool and sit in front of a screen. How do we position the lights so there is no shadow and what kind of lights should we use?
I know the INS uses a frame of lights around the subject. It is just a simple metal frame that surrounds the person sitting in the chair. If I remember correctly there were 6 lights on the frame, surrounding the person.
You may also want to consider using a ringlight. This is a flash unit that surrounds your camera lens. They are not cheap, but are often used in fashion photography for shadowless photos, though it gives a very flat look to the person… no shadow dimension on the face. But you are not taking portraits, you just want to eliminate shadows, and the ring light would work well for you.
There is a new attachment that can be placed on a hot shoe mounted flash to convert it into a ring light. Much less expensive… if you have one of the camera and flash units for which it is made:
