Sony DCS W-80 digital camera battery problems?

On my way back home I bought a new Sony digital camera DSC W 80 Oct. 10 2007, Saudi Arabia and returned to India without verification. This new camera never started successfully even after the battery charged original. Starts a time for a second and immediately turns off with a message "For use with compatible battery only" To my surprise Sony dealer India has refused to help and advised me to buy a new battery that is costing more than 30% of camera cost. Also the Sony website has been denied to help advise my website to contact Saudi Sony, which does not exist and I have no means to send the camera to send to Saudi Arabia for a replacement battery. I never thought a reputable company such as Sony cusotmers out of trouble. My Camera Serial Number: 2709904 Type of battery SONY NP BG1 or any type can from person to help me solve this problem. Thank you very much for your kind help.

Another possibility is that the product is a clone … some of the imitations of Asia are best the picture of what work … It could even be that the camera is real … the OEMs could produce and sell out the back door with a battery of imitation. The reason I suggest that some Sony batteries require a special circuit that identifies them as the OEM battery. Have been some controversy about this … but there are a few after market manufacturers who make batteries work properly … usually have OEM contracts, which is the way they are capable of producing a battery of Sony quality without it. The upstart brand of batteries is very good, but I do not know if you can get in India … you can check. Your site site has some interesting information about how the battery industry works.
