Do It Yourself Cheap Catalogs: 4 Easy Tips

It is easy to create cheap catalogs for your business. In fact you can do all the work yourself and save a lot of money in catalog printing. In this article I will teach you how to make “do it yourself” cheap catalogs with just four easy saving tips.

1.      Doing your own layouts – Don’t have money to hire a layout artist? Well you can do all the layouts yourself and save all that cash. Do not worry, you will not need professional training to make catalog layouts. You just need a simple catalog template that is easily acquired over the Internet for free. Just look for printing websites and download their free catalog templates. Using those templates as a base, you can build up your own catalog layout from there. Most desktop publishing applications should accommodate that template for easy use. Keep things simple if you want and you should have a nice workable layout made by yourself.

2.      Shooting your own photographs – Don’t have the dough for a professional photographer? You can also do all the product photography yourself for your catalogs. You will need a simple digital camera, some good lighting devices and maybe a nice empty space to work with.

For the  empty space it is good to use plain white or a plain blue color on the background. This should let you easily lift the image digitally when doing your layout. Place your lighting devices all around the area, taking great care to cover all the possible shadows that may appear in different angles. Finally use your digital camera to take your product photographs in your prepared area. Take multiple shots of each product using different angles and poses. By the end of this session you should have plenty of decently looking photographs ready for your catalogs.

3.      Writing your own descriptions – Can’t hire a freelance writer? Why not write your own product descriptions yourself? It is very easy! Just try to look at other color catalogs and see how they describe their products. Try to note the adjectives that they use to describe each item and see if there are buzzwords that you may want to adapt for your own style. Make sure though that you do not copy their style directly. Use their technique as a basis and then build or improve upon them as you go along.

It is good to have all the text descriptions stored in one word document first so that you can review and proof read everything before adding them to the layout itself. Make sure you proof read at least two or three times to make sure no spelling or grammar errors make it through.

4.      Cheap printing and binding – Need cheap printing and binding? It easy to look for cheap catalog printing services online. Since most printing companies advertise in the Internet, you can easily spot the cheapest printing rates in the country. Most of them already include the binding charge with the printing quotation and will offer discounts the more catalog copies you want printed. Just search as thoroughly as you can and you should find the best printing deals on the planet.

So? Easy write? You can now do your catalog printing yourself. No hassle and less cost.
