How Do I Draw This Bird?
http://digital-photography-school.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/images/bird-photography.jpg
I’ve drawn him (body, mouth, eyes, etc), but I don’t really know how I would draw the texture of his fur. Since I’m only using a pencil how would I do this? Is there a trick to it?
Also bonus question: If I were using colors (like water colors, no crayons!) would that be bad on just a college rule sheet of paper?
If you want to draw it yourself and show me “how it’s done” that would be cool too.
Thanks
.
First, look carefully for the light & dark shades in the body, including shadows of other organs on the body.
Then you need very light strokes on the bright parts & darker strokes on the shaded parts.
You could use soft lead pencils to create the darker shades.
Also remember to make your strokes in the same direction as the feathers seen on the bird. the strokes should be short & even, & close, for a furry, fullish look.
You can show the gradation of shades within the same stroke too, by increasing/decreasing the pressure on the pencil. This will create a continuous gradient, rather than a patchy effect.
Finally, after you’ve covered most of the body, just lightly smudge the entire sketch in the same direction [up-down] using your finger tip or a soft piece of cloth. This will create a softer look & mask some of the harsher strokes or pencil lines.
You may find some tutorials if you try some search engines …
Hope these help
All the very best & enjoy
