Photography Release Agreement
What kind of copyright release form do I need when giving away my photos on disc?
I specialize in lifestyle photography and I’ve recently made the transition to offering my photos on disc to my clients, as it seems much more popular. They can then print them wherever they chose.
I’d still like to retain some copyright, or some sort of release so I can publish these photos how I choose (print, online). Can anyone tell me how to word my agreements with future clients? Thanks so much!
What you need is not a model release, but a usage license. As the photographer you own the copyright. You may give others permission to use your images within what ever limits you wish. This permission is called usage rights AKA: A usage agreement, usage license, etc. You do not need to give up your copyright to do so. You want to grant non-eclusive use to your clients.
A google search of the names I gave above will yield many examples. Basically, just write what you give them permission to do. It may or may not include allowing them to make prints.
The fact the images are given via a disc makes no difference.
