What are some good digital SLR cameras?
lately i’ve been starting to get interested in photography, and i was wondering, what are some good cameras to start off with? i’ve seen a couple that i like, such as the nikon d40. but i wanted to hear from people with more experience which ones are better. i want something thats not too complicated, but still takes great photos.
if you could also list the price and the pros and cons, that would be great 
Where do you want to go in photography? That’s the question you need to think about. Once you buy into a system – Canon or Nikon are the leaders, but if you are brand new you might also look at Olympus, it’s been getting rave reviews and they are trying hard to push into that Canon-Nikon lead – you will end up with lots of useless gear to sell on Ebay at a fraction of its new price if you switch later.
Most DSLRs, even the semi-pro models like the Canon 40D or Nikon S300, have a program mode that makes them act like a P&S until you learn more about what you’re doing – and even better, many include “scene” modes that idealize settings for particular shots, like landscapes, portraits, etc.
Look into what lenses will be required foer the type of photography you’ll end up doing – and note that your life might not follow that path, even later on. For 21 years in Florida I shot mostly weddings, now that I’ve moved north, most of my work is interiors for a magazine and rock bands. Go figure!
