Do I need a permit to take pictures here?

I was thinking of going to Morikami Museum today to go and take some pictures. I’m starting up a website where I can showcase pictures I’ve taken and also put them up for sale or “lease” (for anyone who may want to use them in magazines or something like that). Morikami says on their website that a permit is required for “commercial photography”. I’m not going to be actively running around saying “buy my pictures!” or anything, but on the website I am going set it up and make it clear that people are free to contact me if they wish to purchase anything.

Based on your description, you would indeed be engaged in commercial photography.

I would add that anyone who considers selling photos should learn about copyright laws, and when model and/or property releases are needed. There are a number of articles on the internet about these issues. Knowing the law before selling a photo can avoid a great deal of trouble.
