Photography New York Times
photography question?

I really want to becaome a professional photographer. I tak epictures of my kids all the time and had taken some photos of a friends wedding. Everyone says that my pictures turn out really well. I have been asked to shoot a family picture for someone and I am getting a little nervouse. I am starting the New York Institue of photography program in a coule pf weeks but I am starting. Any advice about the program and about where to start. I really want this but sometimes I feel like it’s SO much to take in.

Hello. I too have an interest in NYIP and have been thinking about starting the course as well. I have two babies that are ages 1 and 2 and I am just concerned about timing and it seems like a pretty big jump for me.

I have been taking better and better pictures lately and feel that my photo’s are studio worthy. My husband supports our family and I am the one at home, so its a little scary for me to think of what if I start it and can’t complete it, or what if it’s too overwhelming or I get frustrated with it and lose interest.

For that reason I am thinking that I should try the fundamentals short course that is a basic overview of using digital cameras. I figure if I can do that one I can get my feet wet and see if this is something that I really want to learn more about indepthly. I spoke yesterday with NYIP enrollment office and they said that the Professional Photography course has been updated to fit with digital equipment. So you CAN use digital equipment if you really want to with it and just omit the references to film usage. They are constantly updating the course apparently because of latest technology in equipment.

I think by trying the short course it may help decide if its something you really want to get into. For me, looking at my camera’s handbook I haven’t had much trouble learning how to change settings and things like this but I may feel differently when it comes to more technical things as I usually go with my gut or already have some pose or angle in mind.

Try it out and see. I think the course is reasonable but the major costs will involve wanting to buy better and better cameras and equipment. If you can afford to sink a couple thousand into it you can make it a serious hobby and hopefully even find some type of work whether freelance or with a company. Think about it advertising agencies, even the NBA has to have a photographer. Photography is all around us everyday everywhere we go, so surely there is some window into that world. And NYIP also guides you through the options of what you can do ONCE you learn to use the camera in a professional manner. Take it a step at a time. But first figure out if this is something you really want to do with yourself and then go for it.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles On Photography is a 1977 collection of essays by Susan Sontag. It originally appeared as a series of essays in the New York Review of Books between 1973 and 1977. In the book, Sontag expresses her views on the history and presentday role of photography in capitalist societies as of the 1970s. Sontag discusses many examples of modern photography. Among these, she contrasts Diane Arbuss work with that of Depressionera documentary photography commissioned by the Farm Security Administration. She also explores the history of American photography in relation to the idealistic notions of America put forth by Walt Whitman and traces these ideas through to the increasingly cynical aesthetic notions of the 1970s, particularly in relation to Arbus and Andy Warhol. New – “Life” thinks outside the box in this book: Did Marilyn Monroe’s pin up change the world? Did harry Benson’s photography of the Beatles deplaning in the New York in 1964 alter our cultural focus? The pictures in this book are some times beautiful, often striking, and undeniably powerful. On occasion, our arguments are provocative, even controversial. How does “Life” view 9/11? Abu Ghraib? The murders long ago in Mississippi so recently bought to justice? “Life” views these things, not in a
