Photography has come a long way since the ages of pin-hole cameras or pocket brownies. In earlier times photographers were encumbered with the task of processing film. This was associated with limited frames and time delays. Digitisation revolutionised modern living. Changes impacted ordinary people, who started snapping everything with their new digital cameras, and contemporary professional photographers who now had an entirely new work-flow.

With the arrival of digital photography came the propensity for professionals to specialize in areas including fashion photography, nature photography, sports photography, still life photography, food photography, forensic photography, wedding photography, war photography, and paparazzi. No longer were there simple photographers; now there were stock photographers, product photographers, fashion photographers, corporate photographers, profile photographers and advertising photographers.
