Fashion Consultants Get the Most Out of Model Talent

When a company decides to market a fashion product, it is imperative to understand the end goal, and the target market in order to choose the right fashion models.  For example, most lingerie lines utilize petite, 20 year old models with an average B or C bust sizes.  That may be fine for your needs, but the truth is, a majority of your customers probably do not relate to the airbrushed beauty of your models.  Instead, an option may be to use more everyday women, with a fun, fresh outlook, wearing your product in situations that will create a subconscious bond between your model and the target customer.

Another situation that gets overlooked is the influence of a husband or boyfriend on the decision of your customer.  The company  goal should be to use models that are pretty, but not overtly gorgeous, so they appear to be in “the same league” as these husbands and boyfriends. This will create a stronger interest in the men.   It will also make the woman less self conscious about wearing the product.

Lingerie is just one example of the types of situations that fashion designers find themselves in when creating a marketing campaign.  It is important to finely hone the type and look of your fashion models to get every possible advantage.  If your campaign is regional, it is important to know which type of model is best for your region.  California leans towards tanned blondes, the south prefers blue eyed brunettes, and the Midwest still loves the wholesome girl next door look.

There are several fashion consulting companies that provide expert talent evaluations.  They may seem slightly expensive initially, but the return on your advertising dollar will be exponential if you make the right decisions. ML Talent Consulting (mltalentconsulting.com), located in Carlsbad, CA, is one such company that has been expertly appraising fashion talent and researching the consumer markets for over 10 years.

Photography and the USA by Gidley, Mick Edition ILL, 0

Photography and the USA by Gidley, Mick Edition ILL, 0

$24.99

From Ansel Adams to Carleton Watkins, Diane Arbus to Weegee, Richard Avedon to James VanDerZee, American photographers have recorded their vast, multicultural nation in images that, for more than a hundred years, have come to define the USA. In Photography and the USA, Mick Gidley explores not only the medium of photography and the efforts to capture key events and moments through photographs, but also the many ways in which the medium has played a formative role in American culture.   Photography and the USA encompasses the major movements, figures and works that are crucial to understanding American photography, but also pays attention to more obscure aspects of photography’s history. Focusing on works that reveal many different facets of America, its landscapes and its people, Gidley explores the ambiguities of American history and culture. We encounter images that range from an anti-lynching demo in 1934 to Dorothea Lange’s poster “All races serve the crops in California;” an early photographic view of Niagara Falls against the painstaking detail of Edward Weston’s Pepper, No. 30; a fireman’s fight in the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 to the Ground Zero images of 2001 by Joel Meyerowitz; an 1890s “Wanted” image to Elliot Erwitt’s shot of the Nixon–Kruschchev “Kitchen Debate.” Organizing his narrative around the themes of history, technology, the document and the emblem, Mick Gidley not only presents a history of photography, but also reveals the complexities inherent in reading photographs themselves.   A concise yet comprehensive overview of photography in the United States, this book is an excellent introduction to the subject for American Studies or visual arts students, or for anyone interested in US history or culture.
