Photography Lighting Basics

Where/What studio lighting should I get?
Okay, so I have a little over $200, [i know its not much] and i’m really looking to start building up a studio in my garage.. but I literally have nothing. The only thing I have is my DSLR obviously.. I want to do portrait photography eventually in my studio..
What are the basics I need and should get first with this money? That can give me a little start to have a basic studio down until I get more money to get more equipment? What would you suggest me having in the long run for my studio to be complete?
p.s. i have a tripod too.. but thats really it.
thanks.
I bought a cheap set off ebay, and totally learned to regret that move.
The strobes have so little power and a very yellow color cast, I never use them.
Continuous lights are not very good, either.
You’re better off starting to save up for a decent flash, a shoot through umbrella on a stand, and an external flash trigger (like a transmitter).
I’m afraid $200 won’t get you very far….. make sure to look for second hand stuff, maybe you can find a good deal there.
Get a reflector or two, and wait to buy some decent stuff.
