Graphic Design: summary, salary, and outlook?

I (kind of) want to be a graphic designer, as a back up plan for a career in photography, can someone tell me the job summary, estimated yearly salary, and the outlook for any possible job growth? Is creating logos in the description? Because that is what I would mainly like to do, not anything like gaming graphics or anything like that, where you have to have measurements, like this:

Graphics folks are a dime a dozen in technology industry. Assuming you went to work for some company in an entry level position, you could expect $20-30K a year tops. If you start your own business or work in some specialized field, you can expect significantly higher pay. If you own and operate the business, it’s only limited by what you can sell. If you DO get into the game or movie industries, you can expect a good bit more as well; provided you’re good and working on a high profile project.
