Help with taking exposures?

I’ve just got a Canon 500D but I’m having a bit of trouble with taking exposures. On auto, it works fine when I set the continuous self timer to 10 it’ll take 10 images one after the other. But in manual where I have all the settings on that I need, a timer pops up and a red light comes on. I end up with only one image at the end regardless of how long I let the timer count.
My settings in manual are: ISO 800, BULB, manual focus, evaluative metering, and continuous self timer, mirror lock up enabled, noise reduction enabled. Any ideas what’s going on and how I can change it to taking pictures one after the other instead of just one image? I’m a photography newbie (I’m probably just missing something obvious) so simple explanations would be good Thanks!
I’ve changed the bulb setting, it’s still only taking one picture so that can’t be it :S

You dont have it on Bulb.
Try AV or Tv setting.
Bulb is more for long exposures.
