How I Started by Photography Company

I’ve been working at a 9 to 5 managerial job for the past 4 years and before that I was in the biotech industry for 8 years prior to that. I got laid off from my biotech job and then I found a job at another company thats not anywhere related to biotech. I found out that this is where I don’t want to be. Behind a desk. So I was looking for ways to get out of the job I am in now so that I can find a way to best pursue my hobby as a full time job.

Well I first started by buying a camera and then started to develop some skills with it. I took some course at a local community college and thats when I really started liking photography in way that might be a money making venture for me. So I started browsing forums in order to learn as much as I can in order to further my skill so that I can comfortable do photography work well enough to get paid for it. So over the years I got pretty good and then an opportunity came up to photography a wedding for a friend of mine who had a very small budget and couldn’t afford a wedding photographer. So she asked me if I could photograph her wedding knowing full well i’m not a professional photographer. Long story short, the pictures came out pretty well. My friend loved the photos. Sure they didn’t look uber professional but for the budget she paid me, which was nothing, it was a steal. So this got me thinking into researching more about wedding photography as a business.

In my research for wedding photography, I see there is a lot of competition out there. So I went to some websites that had forums dealing with wedding photography. This site had a lot of people giving feedback to people who post their wedding pictures. There were a lot of beginners that posted their stuff and it did look amateurish. However, I think I have some skill that was better than that. One thing that did worry me though as when I was browsing though, I saw a blurb about somebody saying you need insurance and liability protection. I was thinking, why would I need liability protection. I mean I only have a camera, but then people said that people sue for everything, especially if people trip over your equipment. So I searched for sites regarding liability protection and came across some sites regarding forming a LLC or Corporation.  I found Incorporate Fast and Legal Zoom on the web to do all my filing needs.  I decided to go with Incorporate Fast to form a LLC.

So, long story short, again. I formed my LLC and formed a website and I started my business with a friend of mine who was also interested in photography. Our website needs work but hopefully it’ll be improved over time. Well thats it.

The Paradox of Photography By Taminiaux, Pierre

The Paradox of Photography By Taminiaux, Pierre

$89.22

The paradox of photography analyzes the discourse on photography by four of the most important modern French poets and theorists (Baudelaire, Breton, Barthes and ValGery). It stresses in particular the importance of this visual language for the development of both new forms of narrative and original critical studies on issues of representation in art. It also reflects upon the integration of photography within the domain of technical modernity while emphasizing its aesthetic identity stemming from the Western tradition of figurative painting. Photography in Africa (Hardcover)

Photography in Africa (Hardcover)

$126.48

This collection of studies in African photography examines, through a series of empirically rich historical and ethnographic cases, the variety of ways in which photographs are produced, circulated, and engaged across a range of social contexts. In so doing, it elucidates the distinctive characteristics of African photographic practices and cultures, vis- -vis those of other forms of `vernacular photography` worldwide. In addition, these studies develop a reflexive turn, examining the history of academic engagement with these African photographic cultures, and reflecting on the distinctive qualities of the ethnographic method as a means for studying such phenomena. The volume critically engages current debates in African photography and visual anthropology. First, it extends our understanding of the variety of ways in which both colonial and post-colonial states in Africa have used photography as a means for establishing, and projecting, their authority. Second, it moves discussion of African photography away from an exclusive focus on the role of the `the studio` and looks at the circulations through which the studios` products – the photographs themselves – later pass as artefacts of material culture. Last, it makes an important contribution to our understanding of the relationship between photography and ethnographic research methods, as these have been employed in Africa. Richard Vokes is Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and author of Ghosts of Kanungu

Trauma and Documentary Photography of the Fsa (Hardcover)

Trauma and Documentary Photography of the Fsa (Hardcover)

$119.41

The latest volume in the Defining Moments in American Photography series, Trauma and Documentary Photography of the FSA proposes that we reconsider the work of the Farm Security Administration and its most beloved photographers in light of various forms of trauma in the 1930s. The authors offer new ways to understand this body of work by exploring a more variable idea of documentary photography than what the New Dealers proposed. Taking a critical look at the FSA photography project, they identify its goals, biases, contradictions, and ambivalences, while discerning strikingly independent directions among its photographers. Blair and Rosenberg discuss how, in the hands of socially minded photographers seeking to address and publicize suffering, photography and trauma mixed. In the volatility of that mixture, they argue, competing ideas for documentary took shape. Among the key figures studied here are some of the most beloved in American photography, including Walker Evans, Ben Shahn, and Aaron Siskind.
