Photography For Beginners Tips
camera for photography beginners?
i’m thinking about getting into photography but i don’t know very much about working more hi-tech cameras. i’m looking into buying one but i’m not sure which one would be the best for a beginner like me. i’ve heard the vivitar V3800N is a good choice but i’m not sure. any suggestions or tips on photography in general? all answers are appreciated & welcomed!
I do not know much about the Vivitar V3800N, I am however glad to see somebody who wants to get into photography using their head and looking at buying a 35mm camera. It is sometimes frustrating when I hear a P&S owner wanting to take up photography seriously but stamping their feet when the entry level DSLR I recommend does not have live-view.
You will learn a lot more with photography by starting off with a 35mm SLR, taking advantage of those very cheap and very good old lenses and saving up and buying a DSLR later.
Anyway back to the original question. There are so many cameras you could look at, it depends on your budget. I am a Canon shooter and I own a Canon A-1, here’s some info…

I often recommend this camera, is perfect for somebody wanting to learn photography. It is fully manual (AV/TV/M), well built, I love winding on the film using the thumb winder, it is a joy to use and I especially like the aperture and shutter speed display in the viewfinder. I picked up my A-1 with 50mm f/1.8 FD lens for £34 on eBay, an absolute bargain.
You must also understand that the lenses (FD) for this are all manual focus, I personally like this, they are cheap and of superb quality (silky smooth!). If you really want AF then look to the newer Canon EOS range.
This camera is just my personal opinion of course, there are hundreds of offerings from Nikon/Minolta/Pentax etc that are just as good.
