Photography Exercises For Beginners

Teen that’s wants to learn more about photography?
Ok, I am 14 years old and lately I have been quite interested in photography. I have a Kodak Easyshare M853. I would like to learn more about photography, how should I do this. My high school offers photography classes, but its for 10th grade and up and I am entering 9th grade. I checked my park district, and there are photography classes but you must be 18 or older. I would really like to learn how to take interesting, amazing photos. Also, is my camera going to hold me back at all? If so, what should I look at getting. I would like to avoid making a major investment before I figure out if this is something I really want to do. Thanks so much for the help everyone. Also, if there are any like photography exercises, or subjects that are good for a beginner to practice on I would love to know. Thank you so much for all the help!
A lot of great answers. I fully agree with Thanksapantsful. I too recommend picking up a 35mm camera. Granted, film processing requires more investment in film and processing, but the cameras are inexpensive. Any larger camera shop will have used ones for sale. The K-1000 is a perfect starter camera. Another is the Minolta SRT series. (I started 25 years ago with an SRT-101). With one of these cameras there are no extra features to get in the way of good solid learning.
Even though you have to get the film processed most photo labs will scan the negatives and put them in digital form for you. Your digital camera has its advantages too. You can instantly view your results.
Your Easyshare is absolutely fine… for now. Keep shooting. And as you stated find out if you really want to continue learning. Then work your way up to bigger, better cameras.
You may want to look into some photography forums. I frequent the aptly named- www.photoforum.com
There you can get tips, techniques and tricks. You can display your photos and get critiques. And most importantly, you can meet and converse with other fellow photographers.
I applaud your interest in photography. It is a good career path to follow. You can meet a lot of people, make a decent salary and it’s a lot of fun. My father was a professional photographer and I started helping him shoot weddings at six. By thirteen I shot my first wedding. My daughter is now eighteen and she’s been shooting for over ten years.
Keep shooting!
