Starting Your Own Photography Business?
Do you know that you could turn your hobby of photography into a lucrative money making adventure? Do you want to make money doing what you enjoy? If you already owned all the equipment needed to capture a picture, you can begin earning money starting from today!
Starting your own photography business requires less money than what you expect from a brick and mortar business especially if you already own the equipment necessary. The good thing about this little business is that it can be done right from your own sweet home!
Just choose a room in your home for your photography business. This dedicated space can be used as your office.
You don’t even need a dark room because today, digital cameras don’t even require film. You can even go to another shop and ask them to print for you (after you make all the necessary adjustment on the picture).
You may need to purchase additional equipment if you want to make photography your business. To attract clients, your photos need to stand out. To make them look professional you may want to have a range of lenses as well as filters that will help you to create a variety of special effects for your clients.
In the beginning of your business, you only need a few but as your business grows, you will want to purchase more (to have more diversified, wealthy clients). One of the best benefits about this business is you can do it in your spare time until your customer bases grows to a point it can supports you financially. I advise you to do this as a part-time job until you have clients base big enough to support your lifestyle.
Use your time wisely and take each step seriously so your clients will do the same for you.
Figuring out which name is suitable for your business and a logo for marketing purposes will be one of the first task you MUST do. Registering with your local government will be the next on your agenda as you want to be a legal business. Once you are registered, you will be able to issue sales receipts as well as file taxes.
And you need a business plan as well. Get a goal for your business and focus on it. Business plan can help you to achieve that goal. At the end of writing your own business plan, you will realize if your company will actually be a sustainable business.
Have a plan for your marketing efforts and ideas on how you can increase business. You can change your business plan in the future, what you write right now is not necessarily put in stone (nothing in this world is fixed, and bad things happened, too). If you are looking for outside funding for your business, your business plan is essential to achieve that goal.
Don’t forget to include the business objectives of your newly established photography business. Objectives help you to stay focused on the goals you have for your company. Figure out your pricing structure and include that as well in your business. Do your research on how your competitors price their services (if they are established, you might want to have price lower than them because they have established trust with their customers base.
To find clients, you can start with friends and relatives. You may want to offer your services to them at reduced cost so that you can get the word out (think of viral marketing). Hopefully the quality of your work will speak for itself and people will start talking and giving you more customers.
Don’t set any time limit for yourself because everyone has different pacing. Soon, when your schedule will be so full and you can start doing this full time. Having a solid business plan helps you to achieve your goal of making your photography business a success. Remember to advertise locally and you will see your business grows by leaps and bounds.
Everyone loves photographs. It is their treasured memories and are kept for generations (I have picture of my great-great grandfather). The corporate world too, relies heavily on photographs to increase the perceived value of their products.
It may seem easy, but it is hard. It might be better for me to say it’s simple but hard. Hard because it takes focus (and I hardly have any). Dedicating yourself to do this in your spare time too, will make you tired and will impact the performance of your full-time job.
Whatever it is, always remain focused, and you’ll be just fine. Remember to adapt to situation as your business plan is not set in stone.
