Best DSLR for Beginner about to Study Photography and is going overseas?

I am going overseas in about 6 months and am planning to study photography when i get back. I may be gone a year i may be gone 6 months, but i am looking to buy a camera that i can use while im overseas to take artistic photos with for practice for when i get back an obviously also for personal enjoyment. I’m wanting to do more than your average tourist photo with this i am not looking to just upgrade my compact digital camera. any help from anyone with knowledge of photography would be greatly appreciated as i;ve been searching the internet for information but its all for general camera use. help please!!

I would agree with much of what is here. And would also recommend a DSLR. Like I have said in other treads for a student do not forget to shop the used market. With technology growing at leaps and bounds and many folks having the money to try to stay on the edge of it you often see slightly used DSLR cameras for a good price at places like B&H and Adorama. I shoot Nikon but Nikon, Cannon, Sony, Fuji and Olympus all make good cameras. Nikon and Cannon seem to lead the way and definitely have most of the market share. Now going overseas with the camera. Some things to think about. You need converters to plug the camera in to charge, an extra battery ( or two) so it does not die on you out on a shoot can be a life saver. Take as many memory cards as you can afford to. A laptop with a portable hard drive to store and back-up your photos. A good COMFORTABLE photo backpack that will hold the camera and all of the above. and still meet the carryon requirements for the airline.
