Wedding Photography
Social event photography like covering weddings is a distinct specialization much like advertising photography, aerial photography and the like. Therefore, the work involved should not be neglected by virtue of belonging to being an even associated with festivities and fun. On the contrary, because the wedding is an unrepeatable moment, there is a big responsibility assumed by the photographer when he or she takes up the client on their offer.
This article is intended to help the newly initiated photographer make their debut in this line of profession.
The premise of the article is that I assume that you have acquired the necessary knowledge of photography through a good course. And I totally rule out the possibility that you are one of those who buy a decent camera, release a couple of good photos and advertise yourself as a photographer. If this were the case, I deeply urge you to not use the wedding as a rehearsal. Dedicate some time to work with portrait murals or the like to practice and hone your skills first.
We must all become aware of the importance of the professional photographer at social events and understand that the photographer is hired by the couple hired as a professional contractor.
It also does one good to note that incredibly, advertising photographers tend to believe in themselves as a higher caste among photographers, because of the more expensive equipment they carry around or the knowledge of shaders they espouse so vociferously. However, advertising photography is less risk prone work, since the shots are repeated over and over until the money shot is achieved. That is impossible at weddings, where the photographer must follow the moment so as not to miss anything. The moment of the kiss of consent, taken a second before it is too early, and a second later, the couple has already separated of their embrace. You just shoot your camera when the lips have joined, or time has been lost. Would you ask her to kiss back?
It may sound cruel, but tell your customers otherwise. I have seen many colleagues failed in their attempt to convince the couple, why they need they photo with their parents, where is the photo they wanted taken with the aunt from Australia? And where is the picture on the traditional role of rice?
With this, I assure you, they will do nothing more than crucify you. This means that they will tell everyone that you are an inept photographer and refrain from hiring you.
I will espouse further tips in the second part of this article which will focus on some of the things I have learnt in my own work as a professional photographer.

Photography and Australia by Ennis, Helen Edition ILL, 0 $23.99 With its moving landscapes and famously independent cultural traditions, Australia is uniquely suited to having its national narrative told through visual documentation. Helen Ennis gathers here a selection of photographs that recount the story of Australia, and through this visual chronicle, she uncovers a distinctively Australian visual culture. The striking images featured in Photography and Australia, drawn from the National Library of Australia and other public collections, powerfully document the iconic sights of the rugged Australian landscape such as the imposing Ayers Rock, as well as documentary photographs, wilderness shots, post-mortem studies of bushrangers, and other images both quotidian and extraordinary. One of the leading photography historians in Australia, Ennis argues that the colonial experience is a central element of these visual testaments, and embedded within this experience are the tumultuous relations between white settlers and Aboriginal peoples. Her analysis explores how the photographs reveal the racial, social, and political tensions woven throughout Australian history, ranging from modern works by Aboriginal photographers to archival photographs of desolate mining towns and the peoples who eked out their living from the brutal terrain. The photographers’ personal perspectives are also embedded in the images, Photography and Australia argues, and the book examines how photographers’ responses to place, modernity, and globalization were expressed through their works.            Photography and Australia unearths an original and engaging perspective on Australian history, weaving a wealth of vibrant images into a compelling account that will appeal to the Aussie in all of us.  |
