Photography Assistant Needed
how will being a photographers assistant help me in the long run?
I’m a junior in high school, and I’m doing a research project on Photography. One of the things I’m writing on is employment available to photographers. After searching Yahoo Answers, I figured out that one of the first things I need to do as a photographer is right when I finish college(or tech school, still haven’t decided), is to, essentially, be come a pro photographers slave. You know, fetch the coffee, dry cleaning, set appointments, answer the phone, etc. I’m thinking that this will be a good idea, but I want to know for sure that is this a good idea? And if I become a photographers assistant, what would I be doing for my Master everyday, what to expect, and so on.
Any kind of answer will help! Don’t be shy!
I have been shooting photography for 9 years and can tell you that an assistant is a HUGE help. Working with models as a photographer is a very demanding project. You have to work on making the model comfortable around you by having fun conversations and letting them know what they are doing right (all the while, shooting amazing photos). While you are working on this, your assistant can be setting up for the next shot, touching up hair and/or make up, adjusting lights, and many other tasks. Doing all of this and shooting will make a 3 hour shoot last well over 5 hours and sometimes more. Time is money so the less time taken the better. The ultimate is always to get the best shots possible.
