Camera help?

I am interested in buying either a Canon S3 IS or a Kodak Z712. However, I don’t know which one is better, nor the pros and cons of each camera. I have read 15 online reviews for the S3 IS, but found nor read none for the Kodak Z712. I’ll be using this for my beginners photography class and for my holiday trips to New York, Las Vegas and L.A.
