Is Photography An Art Form

Is photography really a form of art?
I’ve always thought of real art as drawing, painting, making music and whatnot.
When you push down the button on a camera and take a picture is it fair to call you an artist?
Because, if you think about it, the camera is doing all the work….
That is not true. More recently cameras can do more than they used to but a true artist does not use a simple digital, auto-focus camera. They adjust the focus, the lighting, choose the right setting, subject, pose, etc to create the mood and story they want to convey to the viewer. If you think about the fact that a picture tells a story, someone put thought into how you would view that photograph and what that story would be. That is what makes photography an art form just like drawing and painting. It still takes a lot of creativity to make a beautiful, interesting or thought provoking composition or to see the beauty is something so mundane that you elevate it to the level of art by making it the subject of a photograph.

Urban Art Photography by Grobe, Jurgen Edition , 0 $45.49 Urban centres such as Barcelona, Paris and Berlin are places whose landscapes are characterised by anonymously created artwork and signatures that are inventing new visual codes. This street art is much more than mere graffiti. In addition to using spray paint, today’s enterprising urban artists use stencils, wheat paste and found objects to manifest their ideas. They work in an interdisciplinary way and are often creative nomads travelling and working their way through cities around the world. Berlin is a particularly strong magnet for international street artists, inviting them to leave their mark. But the impressions that they leave are inevitably fleeting as their art falls victim to the city’s unrelenting development. Luckily, editor and street artist J????rgen Grosse has worked with Michael Bonk for years to track and archive Berlin’s urban art. Urban Art Photography presents artwork from Berlin that communicates with its environment in a subversive way. Successfully capturing this interplay, the book serves as a permanent documentation and time capsule of these constantly changing images. The creative process and constant development of the pieces through interventions by other street artists are vividly depicted in Urban Art Photography. Their evolution is presented in this large-sized book as authentically as the transience of an art form that makes the city its canvas |

200: Four Hundred Images Are Worth More Than Four Hundred Thousand: Words $80.75 Celebrating Argentina’s bicentennial, and curated by Guido Indij, “200″ resembles a museum in book form. It presents images of Argentina from 1851 to the present day; each year is represented by a single image of its two most extraordinary events. By focusing on only two graphic representations per year, the publication seeks to expose Argentina as it really is: a country of extremes and contrasts. Consequently, an image of an early stock exchange meeting might be juxtaposed against one of street merchants; a vision of a mother dying of typhoid fever might appear alongside a photograph of the equatorial telescope; an image of a lone poetess contrasts a Nazi protest and a cartoon of Mafalda sets off a photograph of the sexy starlet Isabel Sarli. Through this record of unique perspectives, “200″ attests to the varied voices that have built the country’s common lore. |
