Flash Photography Dallas

Why do the lights flash during hockey game?
I was at a Dallas Stars game recently and noticed some of the big stadium lights at the top of the arena would flash periodically during the game. Then watching tonight on TV noticed the same flash. Is it photography related? Now that I’ve noticed it – I’m completely annoyed with it. Can’t not watch the flashing lights…
Yes. When the arena takes a picture (be it a panaromic, player, or whatever) those lights flash to help with lighting. I doubt it applies to the media photographers that take pictures through those holes in the corner boards in the first row, however.
