Photography question, polarising filters, is there anything else can i use?
what do polarising filters do? i’m going to be taking pictures of fish through (most probably dirty) tanks and i’m worried about getting a reflection instead of the fish or that on the pictures all you’ll see is the scratches and dirt on the glass. any tips? not too expensive either.
Polarizing filters reduce glare from a light source where the incident angle of the source of that light is near or close to perpendicular to the surface producing it. So it would be a good bet to use a polarizing filter in such an application as you describe, with varied success (I have used it with such at the Georgia Aquarium, myself). Now, the polarizer will not magically peer though dirt and debris, but it could help with glare on the glass. Try not to use your flash as much as possible, though. Just feel your way through using it with a little trial and error and you should get a few good shots.
