Is there a name or maybe a filter for the color saturation on some of these movies today?

I first noticed it in “Saving Private Ryan”. It’s like…low saturation and high contrast to the picture. The film’s director of photography, Janusz Kaminsi, has done the same thing with a lot of Spielberg movies, e.g. “Saving Private Ryan”, “A.I. Artificial Intelligence”, “Minority Report”, “War of the Worlds”, and “Munich”. And it’s not just Spielberg movies, it’s in a lot of other movies, too. What is that? Is there a name for it or a filter or what?

Color subtraction filters. Also, diffusion filters can be used to reduce contrast. Color subtraction filters absorb certain colors in light, letting the remaining colors through. They are used to demonstrate the primary colors that make up an image. Like your “printing press” quality images! LoL
Works well in the movies you mentioned because it sets a visual tone and mood.
