Does anyone know of any good online photography contests that are free?

YES!!
I am a member of BetterPhoto.com, which offers so much in the way of photography. It is free to become a member, you will receive newsletters and photo of the day by email, are able to have a online gallery to accommodate 30 photos, can enter the monthly contests, have access to blogs and forums where you will learn a lot, and, if desired, take online courses that are taught by some of the best photographers in the world.
Additionally, the betterphoto community is friendly and supportive of helping one another reach their goals. It is a family-friendly site with guidelines.
