College Major Photography

Photography, Visual Arts, College Major.?
Hello everyone, i love photography and I’m thinking about getting a major in Visual Arts with an emphasis in Photography. but I’m having some doubts because some people say that people that major in photography aren’t good and most good photographers have no schooling at all. I’m doing it because i would like to have some documentation in the field that i love. can anyone think or show me and photographers with schooling in that field. I’m looking into Columbia college (Chicago) and Art institute of Chicago. any advice?
mike biondo is a photographer who did four years at pratt and was doing very high profile fashion and portrait work very shortly after graduating.
