Is it necessary to install the software that comes with a digital camera?

I just bought a Canon Digital Rebel XTi camera comes with two CD software. One is listed as the EOS Digital Solution Disc and has applications as BrowserEX Zoom 5.7 and EOS Utility 1.1 on it. The other is the EOS Digital Software Manual instructions I have already connected the camera to a computer and Windows XP friends recoginzed the new hardware. Rather transfred images without additional software insalling. Are the two discs that came with the camera needed to install the software?

I think u have to install the software supplied with the camera if you want to use ur timelapse recording function. I think the Rebel XTi has this feature where u can set ur camera after connecting to the computer to record multiple frames over a period of time or certain time intervals between frames. u have to read the manual to understand this function. others do not think u need to install anything more ….. good luck
