Camera Photography History

How Important Film Photography Is In This Digital Age

The digital camera has become, for the normal family, an important and essential tool for recording special moments in their lives. Photography drastically changed during the few last decades, especially during the last few years plus, how many of you still remember those days when traditional film cameras had to develop the pictures at a local pharmacy, they would all be amazed how fast digital cameras got into stage. And here\’s the reason why: digital photos are much easier to print in comparison to traditional photography, sometimes of much higher photo quality and resolution and photo quality, plus can store lot more photos compared to the traditional films in the ancestors cameras. However, there are still lots of photographers, professional and amateur alike, who still use traditional film photography and old cameras. For these photographers, this process is artful and therapeutic because of the easy with which you can use the cameras and photos, plus a greater care which takes in developing the pictures. Especially photographers still using their personal darkrooms for developing the pictures, these traditional cameras became a hobby they wouldnt give up and switch to digital cameras for anything in the world. Despite the technology advances, well always find people who will appreciate yesterday\’s methods simplicity. But using an old-fashioned traditional film camera, especially some varieties which are decades old, needs a lot more patience, care and diligence, moreover when somebody is developing its own photos. Also, for a lot of photo enthusiasts that learned the craft using older equipment, this comfort that the familiar camera brings plus the developing process can be of therapeutic advantage. Just like some people that have a dishwasher and still wash them by hand because of the meditative or relaxing feeling, the process of developing its own pictures could be a really calming and unique experience. Also, the fact that not anyone can do this, and the fact that this is a skill which can only be developed by practicing, these all small things make the hobby a lot more rewarding. Its also interesting that still a lot of families go at amusement parks where they still pay for having photos taken in \”old-fashioned\” manner, pictures that have grainy black-and-white imprints just for fun and novelty. They even go sometimes as far as dressing in nineteenth century clothes to make this look even more authentic. Ironically, most of the old-fashioned photos are shot using modern digital cameras, after which they are edited to appear antiqued. Photography had been maybe the greatest innovations of all in our history, and being able to have a piece of the history is such an important hobby for lots of photographers and antique collectors. So, next time you have the impression digital cameras made old-fashioned film photography unnecessary and a thing of the past, think of the lots of photographers and hobbyists who still derive great pleasure by collecting and using traditional equipment.

History of the Camera

History of the Camera

The first photograph was made in 1814 by Joseph Nicphore Nipce using a sliding wooden box camera made by Charles and Vincent Chevalier in Paris, the photograph was not permanent though and it faded. Nipce built on a discovery by Johann Heinrich Schultz (1724): a silver and chalk mixture darkens under exposure to light. While this was the introduction of photography, the history of the camera can be traced back much further. Photographic cameras were a development of the camera obscura, a device dating back to the Book of Optics (1021) of the Iraqi Arab scientist Ibn alHaytham (Alhacen),which uses a pinhole or lens to project an image of the scene outside onto a viewing surface. Before the invention of photographic lapel processes there was no way to preserve the images produced by these cameras apart from manually tracing them. The earliest cameras were roomsized, with space for one or more people inside; these gradually evolved into more and more compact models such as that by Nipces time portable handheld cameras suitable for photography were readily available Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 76 Publication Date: 2010/07/28 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.18 inches
