Click it – Digital Photography everywhere
If you were not busy hiding under some rock in the desert or meditating in the company of Billy-goats in some remote mountain you may have probably observed this already. Digital cameras and photography has now become ubiquitous. Every kid, every teenager, every grandma is now armed with either a digital camera or at least a cell phone with a camera built in. This has caused a flood of photos in our worlds.
Digital Vs. Film
Back When I was a kid. A photo meant a film camera. Film meant having to get it developed and printed. All of this meant a cost in terms of money and also time. What it also meant was people put some thought into what they were photographing. You had to use the limited number of exposures in a film judiciously.
Now people just grab a digital camera and start clicking any and everything they see without a care in the world as to what it is they are photographing and how best to go about taking its picture. This has resulted in a proverbial haystack of bad pictures and a few needles of good quality pictures interspersed here and there.
Cellphones
Cellphones with cameras or what I like to call Crappy photo generators. People think just because a cell phone can take photos it is a replacement to an actual camera. Cellphones make for pathetic excuses for cameras. Don’t get me wrong. I like having a camera in the cellphone as it is always around when you need it for a quick snap of something interesting you come across to be posted on web pages or to be passed around in emails. But when it comes to photographs cell phone cameras are more like toys.
Learning Photography.
Everyone who wants to take decent digital photographs needs to invest some time in learning some real techniques. Just buying the newest and greatest camera makes you a camera owner it is not going to turn you instantly into a photographer. So invest some time in learning some actual photography and push back the tide of bad photos.
