What is the best type of laptop for a student?

I am going to university next month and I need to buy a laptop. I was thinking of getting an Apple Mac because they seem to have less viruses and the software for them is cheaper. Some people have told me they are good but others have said they are rubbish, so now I don’t know. What do you think? Also, the uni I’m going to has normal internet access in the halls but also has wireless in the library. Do all laptops with internet also work with wireless connections, or do you need a special wireless one? I don’t have all that much money but I do want a fairly decent one as I’m studying art/photography and will probably need a lot of memory / good graphics etc.
Any advice would be very much appreciated, thanks!

If you are interested in getting an iMac I have the inside scoop on some iMacs and powerbooks that still have apple care warranty on them coming to ebay for dirt cheap.

They look like they should be starting tomorrow night or Friday night and let me just tell you, I picked up a Powerbook G4 very nice laptop with Dual Layering for only $500 the last time they had them, now my brother wants one so I am on the prowl again! They also have some 23″ Displays, it appears from the “heads up” email they will have Powerbooks and iMacs as well as Displays and some Dell Latitudes.
Anyhow, just to give you some background I have purchased from them in the past and wow- I have gotten some awesome deals – they hide nothing and are very helpful.
Oh and all of their auctions start really low (under $10) with no reserve or hidden fees!
